The Barbie Bun

So Alyssa wanted her hair like Barbie today. So she picked out a hairstyle in a Barbie movie. This was the one she picked out:

I knew I couldn't get it that high, but I thought I could make it look kind of like it.
So first.....this is optional......make a lot of flip ponytails in the front and make a high ponytail.

Then you take small pieces of hair out of the ponytail and roll them into little loops and bobby pin them until you run out of hair.

You can also stop halfway through and curl the straight pieces for kind of a half up look. But we wanted it to look like the barbie.

Twists and Curls

First, twist three pieces of hair and bobby pin them and then put some clips in to cover the bobby pins.

I used this stuff:

So wet down the hair really wet. Then rub mousse or anything that will help hold curl. She has a little bit of natural curl, but not a lot. Then just scrunch the hair all over.

This was later in the day when the curls dried.

This made cute curls.

French Twist into a Side Messy Bun

So first, you grab a small piece of hair on one side of her head and split it into two sections.

Then twist them. I like to bring the bottom strand over the top strand. You are only going to add hair from the bottom.

Just keep doing that until you get to the other side. When you are done just tie it off with a rubber band.

Don't worry if you have bumps and things above the twist. You can just bobby pin those down. You can see in this picture that I bobby pinned the bumps down, but the messy bun will cover the bobby pins.

So then just make a messy bun and you are done!

Some Ways to Dress up a Ponytail!

Hair Wrapped Ponytail
First, take a section from the bottom of the ponytail. It doesn't have to be very big.

Then take that piece of hair and wrap it around the ponytail so the rubber band is covered.

Then take another CLEAR elastic and secure the ponytail with that hair included.

Then just kind of play with it to cover that rubber band.

The Bow
So, the first thing you want to do is take a section on the top of the ponytail and split it in half.

Then take those sections and make loops as close to the ponytail as you can.

Sorry, I don't have pictures on this part.
But, you grab a piece of hair on either side of the ponytail and kind of just wrap it around the bow just until you cover the elastics and then just bobby pin the piece of hair under the ponytail.

Braids
This one is pretty easy.
You just do a hair wrapped ponytail (optional) and braid down and tie it off and make another hair wrapped ponytail at the end (optional).

You can also put braids into the ponytail. Or you could do french braids.

Accessories
This is a really easy way to dress up a ponytail.
This one I just added a bow I made. To make a bow stay on, you can put a clear (or colored) elastic over top of the bow and hook it on to both sides of the alligator clip. It stays on all day and is easy to do.

This one I just tied a ribbon into a bow around her ponytail.

This one I just did a ponytail with this cool rubber band thing that my friend gave me.

So there are some cute ways to dress up a ponytail. There are many more.
I hope you enjoy!
